aRWSome Apprenticeship (Culinary) Part #2: That’s a wrap!
For two weeks, our hardworking young Apprentices greeted and served customers, tended to the cashier and cleared trays (all with a smile), which is why their ‘graduation’ on December 5 was an important affair.
Stationed at their various F&B outlets for one last time, I caught up with some of them as they awaited guest-of-honour Minister of State for National Development and Manpower Tan Chuan Jin. I could feel their excitement about the graduation as they showered praises and words of gratitude on their team mates and mentors, and were already looking forward to a future of working here next time. Here’s a look at how their graduation unfolded.

Complete a very unique ‘scan’venger hunt. What in the name of Cybertron is a ‘scan’venger hunt, you ask? Here’s a hint: take the term ‘scan’ in ‘scan’venger literally.

The Jewel of Muscat – sailing the seas
Nestled in the heart of Maritime Experiential Museum & Aquarium (MEMA) is a replica of a 9th century Arab dhow. But to the people who built it, the Omani community, and the crew who steered her through a 68-day voyage, the Jewel of Muscat is more than a replica; it is the embodiment of a proud maritime history and heritage. Here are six facts that will help you grasp the majesty of this ship and its story.
OH, what a man!
In the past two years, Korean fandom has taken the world by storm. In Singapore, youngsters are imitating their favourite idols, from the way they dress to the how they style their hair, and to trying to speak like one. Yes, even the granny at the newspaper stand knows a thing or two about the cute lads from The Land of Kimchi. And if you think that Korean male celebrities are all cute, pale and boyish, you are right. Mostly.

The Season of Giving
It’s the time of the year again! Streets evolve into varying shades of Christmas, lit up by an explosion of light bulbs. Shopping centres start playing (sometimes nauseating) festive favourites like Jingle Bells and Silent Night with the occasional shopper humming along.
But what stands out most about Christmas is it being the season of GIVING. To the recipients, joy abounds. To the giver, it often translates into a mad rush of gift-hunting! If the latter describes you, fret no more:)
RWS pledges to dim lights for Earth Hour 2010
On March 27, for an hour starting from 8:30pm, Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) will join individuals and corporations worldwide in limiting electricity usage at its resort in support of Earth Hour 2010.
For one hour, we will be turning off landscape, canopy and non-essential lightings as well as water fountains in areas all across the resort. Essential lightings in hotels and the car park will be dimmed to 50% luminance. All these will be done with our guests’ safety and security in mind.
Supporting Earth Hour is one of the few initiatives taken by RWS in making a stand against climate change. Right from the start, the resort’s design has incorporated an eco-friendly mindset.
We have Singapore’s largest collection of solar cells; in fact you can see a few of them right on top of the Revenge of the Mummy building in our Universal Studios Singapore
Some of our other initiatives include having the lagoon in Universal Studios Singapore serving as a reservoir for rain water. This is then used to water our hundreds of plants and trees taking root all over the resort; our green roofs also keep the buildings cool. RWS was recently awarded the BCA Green Mark for these initiatives.
Individuals who wish to pledge their support, can visit the Earth Hour website.
