International Lion Dance Championship 2011

The Inaugural International Lion Dance Championship 2011 was held on 28th and 29th October at the majestic Resorts World Sentosa’s Compass Ballroom – one of the region’s largest column-less ballrooms. With the elaborate set design and costumes, the competition was a visual feast for aficionados and the newly-introduced alike.

15 competing teams from Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan battled it out on stunt poles and wowed the audience with death (and gravity) defying feats. Each team had their strengths and competition was close, but as with every competition there could only be one winner:

The 香港关聖宫龙狮团or the Kun Seng Keng Lion And Dragon Dance Association from Hong Kong emerged champions.

Coming in second was the鎮元寺龙狮团or the Zhen Yuan Si Long Shi Tuan team from Indonesia.

And taking home the third prize was the 忠義堂醒狮团 or Zhong Yi Tang Xing Shi Tuan team from Taiwan.

Apart from the Lion Dance troupes, the audience got the full royal treatment with energetic performances.
