Longevity “Lo Hei” 灵猴献桃捞起, Feng Shui Inn

Longevity “Lo Hei” from Feng Shui Inn
This is one Yu Sheng that will impress everyone at the table, from in-laws to business partners. I mean how often do you see anything more than mere piles of shredded vegetables? In comparison, this monkey-shaped Longevity “Lo Hei” by Chef Li Kwok Kwong is a work of art.
In line with the monkey theme, Chef Li added banana chips and banana nut crunch cereal to the toss. On top of that, there’s smoked salmon, crispy fish skin for extra crunch, bak kwa for chewy sweetness and a special peach dressing (peaches symbolise good fortune and longevity) in place of the regular plum sauce. A tasty and memorable way to toss to a prosperous year.
Pan-seared Tiger Prawns with Sauce 嘻哈欢笑•格兰汁煎生虾, Feng Shui Inn

Pan-seared Tiger Prawns with Sauce from Feng Shui Inn
When it comes to prawn dishes, freshness makes or breaks the deal. These large tiger prawns scored high on the freshness scale, which is evident in its moist crunchiness. The secret sauce concocted by Chef Li teases the taste buds with a medley of sweet, savoury and mildly spicy notes. But the real surprise comes in the form of watermelon rings. They add a refreshing contrast to the taste and revitalise the palate with its juicy fruitiness.
Feng Shui Inn’s festive menus are available from S$88++ to S$198++ per person (min 4 pax) and S$268++ per person (min 10 pax).

Hot and Sour Soup 大展宏图•银丝红花蟹酸辣清汤, Forest森

Hot and Sour Soup from Forest森
This dish is the definition of still water runs deep. Deceptively innocent at a glance, this clear soup packs a punch with its good balance of sour and spicy. The wholesome chicken soup base is made by simmering minced chicken breast meat for six hours, then braised with red flower crab meat for added crustacean sweetness. What looks like noodles turn out to be skilfully sliced tofu that slides down your throat with every spoonful.
One of the best soups I’ve had in recent years.
Forest森’s 5- and 6-course menus are available from S$68++ to S$188++ (min 2 pax), S$388++ and S$888++.

Braised Pork Knuckle with Dry Oyster and Fat Choy 发财好市元蹄, Avenue Joffre

Braised Pork Knuckle with Dry Oyster and Fat Choy from Avenue Joffre
This braised pork knuckle dish is a staple on my family reunion dinner menu. While delicious, I find it hard to get past my third spoonful due to its overwhelming richness.
Avenue Joffre does an amazing job to make this traditionally rich and oily dish so much lighter on the palate without sacrificing on taste. The tender pork was well complimented by the fatt choy and extra-large dried oysters (my favourite) which soaked up the flavoursome gravy.
Avenue Joffre festive menus come in sets for 4 (S$368++), 6 (S$588++), 8 (S$668++ and S$688++) and 10 (S$888++, S$968++, S$2880++).
