Get cracking on fresh seafood! | RWScoop

If you’re feeling ravenous after splashing out at the Adventure Cove Waterpark or visiting the S.E.A. Aquarium, head to Fish & Crab Shack located at Maritime Experiential Museum for a seafood feast. A casual eatery known for their affordable and delectable fare, Chef Tan Poh Chuan has introduced the latest Seafood in a Pot to up the ante for crustacean fans.

SeafoodPot

For $130+ per pot and sufficient for 2-3 persons, diners can expect:

-          Alaskan King Crab Legs

-          Sri Lankan Crabs

-          Slipper Lobsters

-          Prawns

-          ½ Shelled Scallops

-          White Clams

-          ½ Shelled Blue Mussels

-          Corn on Cob

-          Potato

I have become very particular about the taste and texture of seafood (sans condiments). Chef Tan Poh Chuan assured me of his dedication to the selection of seafood by using only live crabs. Clams and mussels with cracked shells will not be served.

The food preparation is fuss-free: poaching the seafood in a light stock using ginger, bay leaf, white peppercorn, onion, sweet corn and potato. He explains that this will allow the natural flavours of the food to come through. And he has also created three dipping sauces – barbeque, sambal chilli and Thai coriander – to accompany the food.

MalletandBib

Wear your bibs, grab your mallets and get ready to tuck in. Here is a preview of what to expect.

AlaskanKingCrab

Alaskan King Crab Legs
This rivals the Alaskan King Crab Legs I had in Hokkaido, with its sweet and succulent meat. High in protein and low in fat, you can enjoy this without worrying about piling on the pounds.

Sri Lankan Crabs
The savoury flavour and dense texture of the meat satisfied my cravings for crabs. I recommend trying this without the dipping sauces so that you can relish the freshness in its full glory.

Prawns
Small and sweet, the prawns were juicy with a hint of freshwater aftertaste. Pair this with the sambal chilli sauce if your taste buds are in need of that fiery kick.

½ Shelled Scallops
Plump and moist, the scallops had this distinct and delectable flavour. Great enough to be eaten on its own and goes well with the barbeque sauce too.

Corn on Cob
To add a light and healthful twist to the dish, you can sink your teeth into the refreshing and sweet corn.

Chef Tan suggests washing down the seafood with white wine or beer ($9.50 for a can of Heineken).

If there’s space for more, how about ordering the crisp-fried chicken wings (3 pcs for $7, 6 pcs for $13)? Crisp on the outside and tender within, the well-marinated wings will fill you up.

I could go on forever but you be the judge. Round up a group of two friends and try the Seafood in a Pot for yourself. Trust me, at $130+, it’s worth the price and trip down.
