This August, Feng Shui Inn, the Cantonese restaurant at Level G2 Crockfords Tower, Resorts World Sentosa, is serving a special Feng Shui Inn SG50 A la carte Dim Sum Buffet every Friday and Saturday, and throughout the Singapore Golden Jubilee weekend including 9 and 10 August.
The SG50 A la carte Dim Sum Buffet serves a total of 42 dishes, that will definitely delight fans of dim sums, roasts and wok dishes. Here are some dishes to try when you are here.
Highlight appetisers
Crispy Fried Bitter Gourds with Salted Egg Yolk

Crispy Fried Bitter Gourds with Salted Egg Yolk
I usually avoid eating bitter gourd because I hate its bitterness. But the bitter gourd in this dish is sliced really thin and fried till the bitterness disappeared. Instead, the refreshing taste of bitter gourd remains, mixing with the savoury salted egg yolk for a pleasant appetiser.
I highly recommend this. Even people who usually hates the bitter gourd should find this a nice opener to the ‘main courses’.
Chilled Drunken Chicken

Chilled Drunken Chicken
For someone who loves chicken, this is a dish you should definitely not miss.
At first bite, the heady fragrance of the wine marinading the chicken bursts in my mouth. This quickly dissipates, leaving me with chicken meat that is so tender and soft, it almost melts in my mouth.
Crispy Fish Skin served with Chicken Floss

Crispy Fish Skin served with Chicken Floss
Though the dish looks rather plain, one bite changed my mind. The fish skin is fried to the perfect balance of crunch and crispiness that makes this an easy to eat, fast to disappear dish.
In an intelligent twist by Feng Shui Inn, this is served with chicken floss – the saltiness of the fish skin brings out the sweetness of the chicken floss, and makes for a delightful combination of sweet and savoury. Pop in the first and you won’t stop till they are gone.
Hong Kong-style Roast
Crispy Roasted Chicken served with Garlic Crisps

Crispy Roasted Chicken served with Garlic Crisps
Crispy and soft, this roasted chicken dish makes for a delightful mix of textures. The very thin, very crisp skin provides a nice crunch, which is the perfect counterpoint to the tender, juicy chicken meat. A heavenly combination.
Roasted Crispy Duck

Roasted Crispy Duck
Strangely, on the day I visited, the crispy duck wasn’t as crispy as the crispy chicken (above). The duck meat is however moist and has a firmness that makes eating it a delight. The dish is quite savoury, and you may like to pair it with other dishes to balance out the flavours.
Dim sum
You can’t go wrong with dim sum at Feng Shui Inn. I find it hard to pick favourites. If you love prawns, order a serving each of the Steamed Fresh Prawn Dumpling, Steamed “Siew Mai” with Flying Fish Roe and Steamed Rice Rolls with Fresh Prawns. They all come with generous servings of prawns.
Next, I’ll introduce a few must-orders that are pretty unique to Feng Shui Inn.
Crispy Yam Pastry with Custard Salted Egg Yolk

Crispy Yam Pastry with Custard Salted Egg Yolk
If you could only have one more dim sum before you call it a day at Feng Shui Inn, grab this.
Behind that rather mundane exterior lies a gem waiting to be discovered. Bite into the soft pastry to reach the sweet-savoury yam paste, both which melt easily in your mouth. But there’s more. Keep going for the jackpot – delicious runny custard salted egg yolk. Yum!
Side dish
Crispy Cod Fish with Chilli Fragrant Salt

Crispy Cod Fish with Chilli Fragrant Salt
Don’t brush off the unassuming cubes of cod fish. It looks solid from the outside. But once you take a bite, your teeth sinks into the flesh which melts in your mouth. Very addictive. Plus, it’s not very spicy so it will appeal to those whose tolerance for spice is lower too.
Wok-fried Beef Tenderloin in “French-style”

Wok-fried Beef Tenderloin in “French-style”
The beef tenderloin is cooked “French-style” meaning it is cooked until medium well. This brings out the juiciness of the beef. The pepper sauce makes a delightful combination with the beef.
Rice and Noodles
As most veteran buffet-goers know, rice and noodles are usually the last thing you’d order, just because the carbs can quickly make you full – and lose out on trying all other yummy food. Either leave this to the last or just share a small portion with someone else.
Braised Vermicelli with Shredded Duck and Preserved Vegetable

Braised Vermicelli with Shredded Duck and Preserved Vegetable
I like this dish as the vermicelli is braised in a delicious broth. Even though at this point, I was already quite full, I just had to have a bowl of it. No regrets.
Dessert
Time to work your second stomach (yes, the one for dessert).
Pan-fried Pumpkin cake

Pan-fried Pumpkin cake
Feng Shui Inn’s take of the pumpkin cake gives you a thinly sliced, chewy pumpkin disc with caramelized skin that will appeal to those of us with a sweet tooth. It’s very chewy and provide for a nice excuse not to participate in the after-dinner conversation.
Baked Egg Tart served with Bird’s Nest

Baked Egg Tart served with Bird’s Nest
In Chinese culture, bird’s nest is said to contain high nutritional value so this egg tart should contain hefty goodness in a little package. The combination didn’t quite work for me though, as I feel the flavours didn’t quite gel, but hey it’s said to be good for my skin, so hit me up with this treasure anytime. Unfortunately, you only get one serving of this special egg tart in the buffet.
Double-boiled Red Dates Soup with Assorted Nuts

Double-boiled Red Dates Soup with Assorted Nuts
Finish off your meal with this sweet dessert filled with dates, nutritious nuts and simmered to the perfect concentration. Those with sweet tooth can easily clear off a few bowls of this.
