[INSIGHTS] So you think you can walk?
Almost everyone I know harbours some hope of being taller. It makes it easier to do so many things like look slimmer, perform better in sports and get spotted in a crowd. And if you dream to one day be taller than Yao Ming, perhaps you could try out stilt walking.
[RWS Flashback!] March 2012
A convention, a concert, kids, and an invite. Here’s a quick a look at what happened in RWS for the month of March.
RWS Invites: A new loyalty programme launches
The loyalty programme which gives you access to many closed-door events and VIP treatment soft-launched to a promising start on 19 March.
A year at Resorts World: Highlights of 2011
We’re a week into the new year and for all of you who are working or schooling, it has probably stopped feeling like a celebration and back to the daily grind. Some of you might even be feeling nostalgic. Here at RWScoop we’re taking some time to reminisce about 2011 and all the colourful events that happened.
aRWSome Wishes 2011
There’s a reason why Santa’s long beard is more suited for the cooler climes of the North Pole; Singapore’s humid 32 degrees is no weather for a wooly coat and extravagant facial hair. But despite the heat, our aRWSome Santa, together with the Little Red Riding Hood, the Toy Soldier and around 45 aRWSome volunteers trooped over to CDCs (Community Development Councils) around Singapore to deliver Christmas goodies to 500 underprivileged children.
aRWSome Apprenticeship (Culinary) Part #2: That’s a wrap!
For two weeks, our hardworking young Apprentices greeted and served customers, tended to the cashier and cleared trays (all with a smile), which is why their ‘graduation’ on December 5 was an important affair.
Stationed at their various F&B outlets for one last time, I caught up with some of them as they awaited guest-of-honour Minister of State for National Development and Manpower Tan Chuan Jin. I could feel their excitement about the graduation as they showered praises and words of gratitude on their team mates and mentors, and were already looking forward to a future of working here next time. Here’s a look at how their graduation unfolded.
aRWSome Apprenticeship (Culinary) Part #2: Expectations
The inaugural aRWSome Apprenticeship in June saw the first group of Apprentices learning the ropes from a team of RWS chefs. Part of these apprentices will now join another group of our F&B team at RWS itself for the second part of their Culinary Apprenticeship.
Starting Nov 21 and taking place over two weeks, the 11 Apprentices will learn the other part of the culinary business – the things that happen outside the kitchen, but are equally important for a complete guest’s experience.
We talked to two of the Apprentices, Vicknesh Roshan and Ernest Ooi Jun Lin from Swiss Cottage Secondary School to find out what they expect to take away from this experience.
It’s a Fairytale Christmas at RWS this year
Come 12 Nov, Resorts World Sentosa will be transformed into a magical fairytale land this Christmas as it dons an ambitious light-up in a bid to be Asia’s largest Yuletide holiday destination.
Children for Children 2011 – A MEMA and USS special day out

For many of us living in relative comfort, a day out at an exciting new museum and a theme park would probably be enjoyed as such. But for the 1,600 underprivileged children who came down for a special Children’s Day treat at RWS last Friday, it certainly was a day to remember.
Chefs-in-the-making?
In the inaugural aRWSome Apprenticeship mentorship programme launched in June, we saw students from different walks of life coming together with the same goal – to learn the ropes of becoming a chef. Over the course of three days, the young ones picked up a myriad of culinary tips from a team of Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) chefs who, aside from imparting their skills, were also present to assess the students’ performance. The top student chefs, selected at the end of the course, would walk away with the grand prize of 2 pairs of tickets to Universal Studios Singapore each, with express passes included.
Graded based on several factors like professionalism, team work, safety and their ability to whip up a hearty meal, the winning team emerged in the form of two infectiously bubbly female participants – Nurul and Rosie.

Saving Planet Earth
For those who don’t know, this annual effort involves individuals and companies marking their stand against climate change by turning off lights for an hour on the last Saturday of every March.
Able to spot our hotels in the pictures? Well, they dimmed to 50% luminance too, along with essential lightings in the car park, giving it a rather ‘Gotham City’ feel to it.
In line with our emphasis on being environmentally responsible, (without of course compromising guests’ safety and security in any way) participating in Earth Hour is just one of the ways we as a resort are playing our part in saving the earth. As the new 2011 slogan rightfully sums it up – ‘This Earth Hour, Go Beyond The Hour’, here’s some of the other ways we’re ‘going beyond the hour’.
Green Roofs found on top of many buildings inside Universal Studios Singapore providing - beyond a touch of green to the resort - a cooler environment both inside and outside the buildings
Lowering energy consumption from air-conditioning across the resort through the use of extensive canopies to reduce ambient temperature and energy-friendly eco-coolers

Trees that were preserved during construction of the resort (122 of them!) have either been replanted or recoycled into benches like the ones shown here at the Festive Walk.
