This year’s Lunar New Year falls on 8 February. In the Chinese zodiac, this marks the start of the Year of the Monkey. And at Resorts World Sentosa, we don’t monkey around when it comes to celebrating the new year.
At Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium, Adventure Cove Waterpark, The Forum, and Festive Walk, you’ll find troops of monkeys, characters in festive gear and special programming. If you’re visiting from now until late February, here are some photo spots you don’t want to miss.
The Forum
Our biggest Lunar New Year decoration is the gigantic Sun Wu Kong statue at the forum. Also known as the Monkey King, Sun Wu Kong is a popular character in the classic tale Journey to the West.
The total height of our pièce de résistance is about 8m. The Sun Wu Kong statue is about 4.2m high, and is perched on two high platforms, making it an imposing feature at The Forum.
For the best angle, ask the photographer to stand further away from the installation so they can capture the whole decoration.
Around the Resort, you will find smaller monkeys. These are Sun Wu Kong’s minions. We heard that there are a total of 24 small monkeys around the Resort.

Arches, lanterns and characters in festive gears await guest to the theme park. Be sure to pick up the daily park schedule as you enter, so that you don’t miss the appearance of your favourite characters.
Photo tip: It’s better for the photographer to stand outside the USS gantry to get a full photo of the gates. Remember to get the hand stamp to go back in.
Don’t miss a group photo with the gigantic “Spring” at the end of Hollywood Boulevard.
Our characters are ready for the new year with festive outfits.
This little fashion police applauds Elmo’s choice of a gold outfit. The auspicious colour red would clash badly with its complexion.
Grover on the other hand has no fear of wearing red. In fact, the colour suits him quite well.
The Minions are also dressed up for the occasion.
Other spots
You’ll find this the peach blossom arch at one end of Festive Walk (nearest the hotels).
Photo tip: Wait until there’s no one and snap a photo under the arch.
After taking the photo of the arch, head into the air-conditioned Galleria. Here, you’ll find a stretch of Pernakan-themed decorations.
For the best angle, pose next to the Peranakan kebaya-clad mannequin.
