An Italian perk-me-up at Palio
By Jay Tan
There is one universal truth: no one escapes the clutches of the Weary Wednesday Monster. Midweek blues are painful for that stranded feeling – you’re tired from Monday and Tuesday, but the weekend is Thursday and Friday away. I decided that I needed a perk-me-up comfort meal, one that will keep my spirits uplifted for the rest of the week.
I popped by good ol’ Palio and gave myself a little treat.
The Pici con Aragostelle e Zucchine allo Zafferano isn’t your average overly-commercialised pasta; the absence of egg in the pici affords a very chewy and addictive texture. Teamed with a fresh out of the net crayfish, the succulent meat hit off nicely with the smooth and creamy Iranian saffron pistils cream sauce to exude an alluringly exotic yet familiar savoury profile. Perhaps what makes this a Chef’s Recommendation (and I agree) is the very fact that this spaghetti is painstakingly rolled, strand by strand – in a very unique Palio signature way.
Baked in wood-fired oven, the Hotel Michael Signature Pizza flaunts an extra level of crispiness while trapping much aroma that provides an additional notch of much appreciated taste dimension to this trademark dish. Speckled with a generous amount of fresh Mediterranean seafood, the Hotel Michael Signature Pizza is a luxurious number for a crew of friends to indulge in. The underlying splashes of flavours are a strong affirmation of Palio’s dedication to true blue Tuscan authenticity.
Of course, no meal is complete without the finishing touch – dessert. Palio’s Originale Tiramisu is a textbook example of how this classic Italian patisserie should be done. The espresso coffee steeped Ladyfinger biscuits melded well with the mascarpone cream cheese to orchestrate a symphony of melodious flavours and rhythmic palatability with each mouthful. For guests with an indomitable need for a sugar rush, this finale is a worthy one to draw curtains on a comforting meal.
If asked, I would say all the dishes in its own right, was the highlight of the meal. Every dish distinguished itself well with distinctive traits. Without breaking the bank, Palio is a versatile locale for a boys and/or girls night out or even a romantic get-away, one can definitely find serenity with its laid back ambience and ever cheery staff.
With another half a year worth of Wednesdays to go, I’m always on the look-out for means to chase my weary Wednesdays away. Drop a comment below and share some of your methods. After all, sharing is caring.
