Meet the Addams Family

They’ve been tickling our funny bones since 1938, but this may be mom Morticia’s biggest challenge yet: daughter Wednesday has fallen in love, but has yet to confide in her mother.
Come 9-28 July, you’ll get your chance to meet the Addams family and share in their hilarious dramas. The 2010-2011 Broadway hit musical is moving into Singapore’s Festive Grand Theatre, with a bit of something for every member of your own family.
The beloved characters of the Addams family were created by famed New Yorker cartoonist Charles Addams, and has served as the inspiration for multiple television series and movies. Though they may seem macabre and spooky, parents Gomez and Morticia, Uncle Fester, Grandma, kids Wednesday and Pugsley, and butler Lurch are charmingly close knit as a family.
Uncle Fester, for instance, names Grandma as his favourite person. He says, “She and I are a lot alike – we’re kind of loners. And she loves to cook and tinker with her potions while I love to take things apart and tinker with electronic devices. Plus she knew just what to do when I got a ‘mysterious’ rash all over my body…” Speaking of Grandma, watch out: she’s seeking some romance of her own, and might just come looking for you in the aisles!
Morticia and Gomez, of course, are the cool parents you wish you had. Despite being married for eternity, they are still devoted to each other, tango-ing with a passion. Reminisces Morticia, “The most romantic thing Gomez has ever done for me was tie me up to the torture rack and not feed me for three days. Then he nursed me back to health on our bed of nails. I was swept off my feet. Mi amour!”
Their romance is about to be tested, however, as Wednesday has fallen in love with a “normal” boy, Lucas, and has invited him and his parents over for dinner. Tensions rise and it is up to the resourceful Morticia to restore balance to the family again. Take it from us, she’s more than capable of the task.
Here’s an example of her parenting skills: “Wednesday and Pugsley were in an argument the other day. Wednesday complained that her brother was trying to poison her and I told her not to complain to me, but to poison him right back. Also, I don’t appreciate child’s play such as running with scissors when hatchets and meat cleavers are more acceptable.” With that, we can’t wait to meet the family and join in the toe-tapping.
