Wouldn’t it be great to explore what each career is like before we grow up?
With the new show at Pantages Hollywood Theater, our friends from Sesame Street do just that in the stage show When I Grow Up.
If you’ve been to Universal Studios Singapore, you would know that When I Grow Up is also performed daily in front of the New York Library. So are they the same?
The plot is similar where Elmo and his friends talk about their dreams of becoming a firefighter, police officer, singer and paleontologist. But the one in Pantages Hollywood Theater has enhancements such as:
The indoor version is about 17 minutes long. That’s approximately 5 extra minutes of dancing and singing compared to the outdoor version.
2. Impressive backdrop
Sesame Street literally comes to life with building façades, the iconic street lamp and even Mr Hooper’s store.
The show comes alive at Pantages Hollywood Theater with the elaborate props.
When Grover wanted to be a police officer, poof! Out came a police car! And check out the three LCD screens right above the stage which change displays according to the songs being performed.
4. Additional songs
Look out for Bert and Ernie’s new song Bones, Bones, Bones when they speak about wanting to be a paleontologist. And also Do the Dino Groove where they get everyone on their feet grooving to the music.
The icing on the cake, or rather cookie since we are talking about Sesame Street, is that you get to sit on a cushy chair in an air-conditioned theatre.
Tip for the kids!
Some of the characters will come off stage to do the dino groove with the audience. So sit near the aisle if possible!
The little ones will adore this show, especially the part where their favourite characters come off stage to do the dino groove with them. For adults, this show is a great trip down memory lane, and works better than any youth elixir. For that 17 minutes at least.
After all, growing old may be mandatory, but growing up is optional.
