Universal Journey, an all-new experiential light display in Universal Studios Singapore (USS), is made up of 824,961 light bulbs – making USS the new Guinness World Record holder for the largest light bulb display in an indoor venue.
This was made official on 17 November 2016, the Guinness World Records Day (yes, there is actually such a day!).
Universal Journey is found inside SoundStage 28, and is the headlining attraction for this year’s Santa’s All Star Christmas.
How do you count 824,961 light bulbs?
The team took two months to put together the lights in eight themed zones, while the Guinness World Records representatives took a week to verify the numbers. Two third-party witnesses and the Record Adjudicator from Guinness World Records found the place illuminated by 824,961 lights, almost doubling the previous record set in Romania in 2010 with 449,658 light bulbs.
This is Universal Studios Singapore’s second Guinness World Records; its first is set with Monopoly.
The light bulbs were counted and checked through:
- Measuring the current for each circuit. Then converting the ampere to watts and dividing the total wattage by the bulb wattage.
- Manually counting the number of nodes in each LED strip or string. Then multiplying it by the number of strips.

The Universal Journey will be available in Universal Studios Singapore until 12 February 2017.
