The unsung heroes of Adventure Cove Waterpark

Adventure Cove Waterpark (ACW) has seen thousands of guests walk through its gates since opening in November 2012. Home to 6 waterslides and many other exciting attractions, it has become one of Southeast Asia’s premier waterparks.

ACW was recently awarded the “Silver International Aquatic Safety Award” by Ellis & Associates (E&A) and is now among the top 30% of E&A clients worldwide and the first in the region to achieve this award. E&A, a leader in lifeguarding courses at waterparks, and has set the standards for aquatic safety in waterparks around the world.

E&A does regular audit checks on the waterparks to ensure the highest safety standards are adhered at all times. Having adopted E&A’s rigorous training programmes for the lifeguards, ACW exceeded the audits check and clinched the “Silver International Aquatic Safety Award” this year.

To mark this achievement, two of our lifeguards, Fiona and Aizuddin, were interviewed on national live radio, 938Live, on their jobs and commitment to aquatic safety. They touched on the training they undergo and tips and tricks while in the water.

Here’s what went on in the studios!

Radio DJ: Let’s talk about the main role of a lifeguard, the main role you play

Fiona: Being a Team Manager, I look after the training portion, to ensure the lifeguards are test ready at all times, and always ready to conduct water rescue for guests who require our help and assistance.

Radio DJ: What’s test ready status?

Fiona: Test ready status means they always ready to conduct a water rescue.

Radio DJ: That is the key point obviously, this is what lifeguarding is all about. Aizuddin, are you test ready all the time?

Aizuddin: All of our lifeguards are test ready, hence we recently got the Silver International Safety Award by Ellis and Associates, which makes us the top 30% of E&A clients worldwide.

Radio DJ: Oh wow, that means I can rest assure that when I’m swimming at Adventure Cove Waterpark, I’ve got the right pair of eyes watching over me.

Radio DJ: Since we have two lifeguards here, your most important tip for water safety?

Fiona: Most important tip is to remain clam, do not panic. The more you panic, you will actually start to drink water. Do not hold your breath as well.

Radio DJ: Keeping calm is very important….Aizuddin, your tips?

Aizuddin: For me, it would be to know your own limitations. You might be an ok swimmer, but if the body of water has a lot of current, you might end up struggling too. And most important to keep calm and not panic, if not you will continue thrashing water.

Radio DJ: You might even continue thrashing when helps comes and you might be affecting your own rescue in some ways.
