The countdown for 2017 is near. Before the year ends, we take a trip down memory lane and recount the celebrity visits and major events at the Resort. Which was the most memorable for you?
1. I’m seeing stars!
2. It’s music to my ears: Concerts
Besides coming to the Resort for fun, local and international acts rocked the stage at RWS in 2016.
3. Most scares at Halloween Horror Nights 6
We’ve got the most nights (15) and most haunted houses (5) at this year’s Halloween event. It still brings chills down our spines when we recall the time we visited local haunt Old Changi Hospital and the other haunted spots based on true stories. Which was your favourite house?
4. Pokemon fever at Resorts World Sentosa
First came Pokémon GO which kept us glued to our phones. Then came Pokémon Research Exhibition where we figured out the creature hiding in our Pokeballs in real life. Last came a horde of adorable Pikachus at the first Pikachu Wave Parade at the Resort.
Will Pokémon still dominate 2017?
5. Record-breaking year: Monopoly, Universal Journey
Universal Studios Singapore broke two Guinness World Records this year.
In March, we broke the title for most people playing a Monopoly game in a single venue with 605 participants. The previous record was set on 14 Dec 2015 in the United Kingdom with 585 participants.
In December, we broke the record for largest light bulb display in an indoor venue with 824,961 light bulbs, almost double the previous record held in Romania with 449,658 light bulbs.
6. Launch of first Michelin Guide Singapore
After starving for a local version of the official Michelin food guide, our sunny island finally received one in July.
In this first edition of the guide, Resorts World Sentosa won a total of seven stars, split among with Joël Robuchon Restaurant (the only 3-star restaurant in Singapore), L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon (2 stars) and Forest 森 and Osia Steak & Seafood Grill (each with 1 star).
7. Launch of Michelin Chef showcase restaurant–Art at Curate
Our taste buds were in for a treat for the whole year when guest Michelin-starred chefs Massimiliano Alajmo from Italy, Guy Martin from France, Esben Holmboe Bang from Norway (by way of Denmark), and Ramón Freixa from Spain took over the kitchen of Art at Curate in four different Series. After their respective stints, we continued to enjoy the menus co-created by the chefs.
8. Opening of new Italian restaurant Fratelli, helmed by 3 Michelin-starred chefs
The newest celebrity chef restaurant at RWS Fratelli opened in mid-2016. Helmed by three-star Michelin chefs, Fratelli serves authentic Italian cuisine with two different dining concepts–Pizzeria for all-day dining and Trattoria for dinner service.
9. New wet adventures at RWS
No, we’re not talking about the rainy season in December. This year, we introduced two new water programmes.
In March, Adventure Cove Waterpark introduced the Wet Maze, a two-storey obstacle course. On the ground level is a maze with surprise water sprouts. On top, there’s a rope obstacle course for the brave.
In May, Universal Studios Singapore launched Soak Out–a two-month festive parade and water party involving 50 characters–where you could engage in water play for the first time at the Park.
