Show synopsis

A lunar eclipse mysteriously descends as night falls, bringing to life a natural history museum’s exhibits. A pair of intrepid siblings and an aspiring archaeologist at the museum then find themselves on a whimsical and fantasy journey beyond their wildest imagination. United with the museum’s resurrected resident dinosaurs and other denizens, they forge an unlikely friendship and camaraderie to pursue a common mission in search of TARU, the fossils of a beloved baby T-Rex stolen from the museum. How did TARU get stolen? What obstacles must they traverse to save TARU? Will the trio succeed in their mission?

Musical TARU

But aside from its plot, here are 6 ways to explain what Musical TARU at RWS is all about.

1. An audio-visual spectacle to behold

In addition to a slew of energetic dance numbers, enchanting music and arresting visuals made possible through elaborate costuming and sets, Musical TARU is also set to enthrall audiences with its life-sized puppetry that includes a 2.5-metre tall T-Rex fossil.

2. Wholesome themes for the family

Musical TARU‘s themes are centered on the love between mother and child, the pursuit of one’s dreams, as well as the indomitable spirit of exploration. The effect? Heart-warming and comedic moments that will tug and tickle at your heartstrings.

3. Locally adapted from ‘No. 1 Family Musical in Korea’

If being awarded this title by Arts Council Korea doesn’t scream top-quality Asian-themed entertainment, we don’t know what will. This Singapore version of Musical TARU also happens to be the first-ever three-market theatrical collaboration between Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea.

4. Singaporean references that will strike a chord with the local audience

But what exactly does ‘locally adapted’ mean? For starters, the plot is set in modern Singapore. You will also be invited, throughout the musical, to embark on an exhilarating adventure through famous local landmarks such as Bukit Timah Hill and Changi Point.

5. Star-studded principal cast

Wong Jinglun, Taiwan-based singer and actor – who rose to regional stardom as the most popular contestant in the Taiwanese singing competition One Million Star – will play the role of Da Fa, the aspiring archaeologist who leads the search for TARU.

Freya Lim, acclaimed Taiwanese singer with numerous awards under her belt, will assume the stage role of Cleopatra, one of the museum’s alluring resurrected denizens. Having recently concluded a theatrical stint in Taiwan earlier this year, Musical TARU will be her maiden overseas live theatrical performance. Fun fact: Jinglun actually sang one of Freya’s songs at his first ever singing contest audition!

Ling Xiao, local veteran singer with over 100 albums to his credits and most notably the resident judge of Mediacorp’s Mandarin singing contest Golden Age, will play the role of the museum’s irascible and comedic Curator.
