Kway Guan Huat Joo Chiat Popiah has been such a big name in Singapore since 1938, we just had to invite them down for RWS Street Eats happening from 12 to 20 August 2017. In the meanwhile, we thought we’d highlight how it stands out from all other Popiah in Singapore.

The recipe for making the skin and filling of Kway Guan Huat Joo Chiat Popiah has been handed down and perfected through three generations. If Darwin’s theory of evolution can be applied to food, then Kway Guan Huat Joo Chiat Popiah must certainly be one of the best to still be thriving after 79 years!

Most notably, the skin of Kway Guan Huat Joo Chiat Popiah is freshly and labouriously handmade every morning (scroll down to find out how). This means that it is more moist and chewy than the factory-made popiah skins most stalls in Singapore use, and must be consumed within the same day.

In fact, their Popiah skins are so famous that many customers order them in bulk by weight (1kg has approximately 38 pieces).

From its Nonya filling to its sauces, nothing is store bought or processed. The good people at Kway Guan Huat Joo Chiat Popiah wake up at 6am every morning and begin preparing all the necessary ingredients and condiments before they open for business at 9am.
