Let’s Bo Bo Cha Cha!
Go back in time to Singapore’s yesteryears with Great World Cabaret, a theatre production by Resorts World Sentosa and local theatre company Dream Academy.
Playing at Resorts World Theatre from 19 February to 17 March 2015, the variety show will feature singing, dancing, acrobatics, magic, stand-up comedy and a family-friendly strip tease (Gasp!). The interesting thing is, in each of the four weeks, a different stand-up comedian will be taking the stage.
The show is created by Dream Academy founder and Dim Sum Dolly Selena Tan. It is directed by George Chan and written by Alfian Sa’at and Benjamin Lee.
The show features the “Flaming Flowers”, three iconic home-grown legends who have performed at nightclubs and amusement parks across Singapore in its early years of independence.
From left, we have
- Singapore’s reigning a-go-go and yodeling queen Sakura Teng (played by Joanna Dong)
- popular Malay folk singer Kartina Dahari (played by Aisyah Aziz)
- sultry sex symbol Rose Chan (played by Seong Hui Xuan)
You’ll need to check out the yodelling performed by Joanna Dong, who plays Sakura Teng. For her audition, she had to perform a yodel for 30 seconds to 1 minute. (I can’t even hold my breath for that long!)
Aisyah Aziz, who plays Kartina Dahari, sings about the jasmine flower in both Malay and Mandarin (茉莉花).
Rose Chan, played by Seong Hui Xuan, will be performing a “family friendly” striptease. We won’t give away spoilers here so you’ll need to be there to see it.
Why you should come to all four weeks of Great World Cabaret
Because there’ll be a new comedian every week.
Stand-up comedians Hossan Leong, Sebastian Tan, Mark Lee and Judee Tan will take centre-laughing-stage for a different week each, with their style of belly tickling jokes.
They will be playing different characters during the show. Each character will be weaved into the show, creating different stories for the week. Find out what different characters will be joining each week of Great World Cabaret.
