For the first time ever, Universal Studios Singapore (USS), Universal Studios Hollywood, and Universal Orlando Resort are partnering with Netflix to bring its critically acclaimed series, “Stranger Things”, to life at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) taking place on select nights 27* September to 31 October 2018. We sat down with Markham Gannon, Assistant Director, Creative, Resorts World Sentosa for an exclusive interview to find out what you can expect.
Can you give us an overview of what we can expect from the “Stranger Things” house?
Haunted houses at USS HHN typically have 9 to 10 rooms/scenes each. This year’s “Stranger Things” haunted house, however, will see the most number of rooms to date: 12 rooms depicting 12 different scenes from Season 1 of the series. These include the menacing Hawkins National Laboratory, the Byers home adorned with Christmas lights, the eerie Upside Down and more.
In addition to meeting some of your favourite characters, you will also get a firsthand experience of the adventure, science fiction, and horror. You will meet some characters from the series, but you will also feel like you are a character in that scene. For example, there will be several attacks by the Demogorgon on you as though you’re a character in that scene.
What’s it like to have three Universal parks working with the same popular show at the same time for the first time ever?
Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Singapore will all present a “Stranger Things” themed Halloween Horror Nights house, working closely with Netflix. Each experience will vary slightly based on the environment used to create the haunted house along with its own design interpretations. Here in Singapore, the “Stranger Things” house will be constructed outdoors and located at Breezeway, which enables us to create a large façade to wow guests.
We will also capture the scares and pivotal moments from the series with some added surprises and special effects.
So avid fans of “Stanger Things” can look forward to a very exciting Halloween Horror Nights experience.
What about guests who have yet to watch the series?
Both avid fans and newcomers who have not seen the series because clips from Season 1 will be played in the queue, so you’ll be able to get an understanding of the world you’ll be entering before you experience it firsthand.
What else can we expect at USS HHN8?
Apart from the “Stranger Things” haunted house, guests can also expect haunted houses and scare zones themed around Asian folklore. Following last year’s success, Zombie Laser Tag will also be back by popular demand.
