Glorious food in Universal Studios Singapore

Think theme parks and chow such as hot dogs, churros and candy floss immediately spring to mind. Convenient and relatively affordable, such theme park fares are considered staples and a god sent if you need to rush from one attraction to another.

But if you like to sit down and enjoy your food, Universal Studios Singapore also has it fair share of hidden gems. RWScoop checks out five of the best.

Chicken Rice combo

Where: Discovery Food Court, Lost World

Price: $11.50

Don’t be fooled by its price, this combo consists of the works: roasted or Hainanese chicken rice accompanied by achar, vegetable of the day and even dessert.

For us the star of this dish is the rice; not too cloying or oily and strikes the right balance with its fragrance and softness. The achar packs a punch too, whetting our appetite with the crunchy cucumber and uniquely Asian flavour. Plus, we bet you can’t find a T-Rex looming over you at any other food court.

Thai Spicy Fried Chicken (Papa Bear combo, a 3pc chicken meal)

Where: Goldilocks, Far Far Away

Price: $11.80

Because everyone is always happy at Far Far Away (barring Lord Farquaad), comfort food is what you can find over there. Take the lip-smacking Thai Spicy Fried Chicken for example. What’s not to love with crunchy fried chicken coated with Tom Yum batter? We’ll have a second helping, please. This variant is something unique to Universal Studios Singapore. You might find something similar outside, but we doubt you will feel as happy as wolfing down fried chicken in a fairy tale world.

Satay combo

Where: Casa Del Wild Food Court, Madagascar

Here’s a nice pit stop after doing an African dance with King Julien. The eclectic Casa Del Wild is full of lush greenery, psychedelic colours and of course, sumptuous Asian favourites such as satay. Dipped in sweet peanut sauce, the satay (we call them a slice of heaven on a stick) is flavourful and unforgettable at the same time.

Turkey leg

Where: Marilyn’s, Hollywood

Price: $12

Its tagline says: “Marilyn has great legs,” and that sums it up perfectly. Indeed, her legs are roasted till perfection. Of course we are talking about the popular roasted turkey legs found in the Hollywood zone. Marilyn’s is one of the best finds in the park; it’s just a cart so do look out for it.

Many think turkey is just glorified chicken. We beg to differ. The turkey legs, some as big as your face, can hold their own against any illustrious, award-winning chicken drumsticks. Succulent and addictive, you will definitely go cold turkey without it (sorry, we couldn’t resist).

Great legs, better taste.
