Sesame Street, America’s longest running children show at 43 years , is a childhood companion for many. And with the first Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase launching on 1 March 2013, it’s an opportunity for us oldies to relive those great moment in our lives. A trip to Universal Studios Singapore, where this ride is locate, is incomplete without grabbing some memorabilia. Lucky for us, the new Big Bird’s Emporium right at the ride exit has many things you could’ve wished for. Here are 10 things we love.
They’ve got your back with sunshiney smiles. Measuring roughly 30 cm in height, they’re great for first days at primary school. Or even work if you really want to make an impression.
2. Tumblers with straw
They’re lightweight and grip well. And the cuteness entices junior to drink that water that he refuses to drink. Just ensure that you thoroughly reach the nooks and crannies while washing it out.
Whether you’re a fan of cookies or not isn’t the issue here. We bought at least a tin each – simply because each of the supremely adorable design. Luckily the cookies were yummy too.
Price: $19.90 each.
4. Super Grover tee
Here’s make-believe made easy. Get this for a 5 year old and watch him or her run berserk trying to make the detachable cape fly out behind. Sadly this doesn’t come in adult sizes, though if you’re small (and determined) enough you can try squeezing into the largest size stocked, which should comfortably fit a 10 year old.
Writing devices that come in multi colours with cute Sesame Street characters perched on top of a Universal Studios Singapore globe? Get it.
6. Elmo bolsters
It looked a little strange at first but the more we looked at it the more it grew on us. Check out the mini hands sprouting beneath! It’s pretty sturdy and we imagine it would make nifty cushions that you can stow in the back seat of your car for fidgety passengers.
7. School bus sling bag
The size is just nice to fit most standard-sized text books and the front bumper pocket is roomy enough to fit pencil cases, wallets, and little knick knacks. It’s lightweight enough not to burden little shoulders and somehow age-friendly enough that you can carry it too and pass off as quirky, rather than childish. Really.
8. Canvas totes
Alright so maybe the school bus bag’s too quirky. Go for these sturdy canvas bags instead. We love the natural grain of the bag and the soothing colours used. It can comfortably fit laptops up to 17 inches.
We know, magnets, right, how interesting can they be? But their bright colours convinced us otherwise. We bought the cookie monster one and left it on our resident office glutton’s metal cabinet.
Price: $5.90 for character magnets, $4.90 for Sesame Street logo magnet
10. Trucker caps
Beat the heat – or at least keep it of your face and head with these trucker caps. Choose between character caps or Sesame Street logo caps. We particularly love these two.
Price: $23.90 for the black trucker cap and $21.90 for the character caps
