240 help to refurbish homes on aRWSome Volunteer Day

240 RWS Team Members got together on 21 April 2017 for aRWSome Volunteer Day, where they refurbished more than 30 low-income homes in Clementi. It was the biggest RWS volunteer event thus far.

Even before this day arrived, the teams were in close discussion with the beneficiaries to work out the changes they’d like to have. Furniture purchase and other big items were made and scheduled to be delivered on the day.

The project brought together people from different work backgrounds and utilised skills that some use for work. For example, the Facilities Management and Engineering team took on most of the mechanical and electrical repairs that needed to be done.

The cleaning, painting and installation of new furniture took the Volunteers the good part of the day, with most teams ending only in the late evening. It was hard work but the satisfaction at the end is priceless.

As volunteer Raymond Leo said: “When we wrapped up, 85-year-old Mr Phoon couldn’t stop thanking us. I realised then we have touched his life and he’s returning our efforts with his smile.”
