Congratulations, you’ve made it to the end of 2017 unscathed! As we usher in the New Year, here’s a quick look back at some of our favourite RWS moments of this year.
1. Chinese New Year at RWS
We kick-started the Year of the Rooster with a slew of Chinese New Year events. These included the Resort-wide Golden Treasures Grand Draws where over S$3 million worth of prizes were up for grabs.
Even the characters at Universal Studios Singapore (USS) got into the festive mood…
…as we wished you a Gong SEA Fa Cai down at the S.E.A.A. Aquarium’s (SEAA’s) Open Ocean Habitat with an (unconventional) Underwater Dragon Dance.
2. Opening of Sessions @ Hard Rock Hotel Singapore
January 2017 also marked the opening of Sessions, a 3-in-1 dining destination that combines a restaurant, a pattiserie, and a cooking studio in one location.
The pattiserie – Sweet Sessions – is located at its entrance, and features the unique and colourful creations of award-winning pastry chef Kenny Kong.
The cooking studio – Cooking Sessions – is where guests come to learn cooking and baking techniques from celebrity chefs, and even a venue for team-building cook-offs.
3. Opening of CURATE’s perennial kitchen
CURATE started out in 2016 solely as Asia’s first Michelin chef showcase restaurant for visiting chefs in its eponymous Art at Curate series. Following the appointment of Chef Benjamin Halat as CURATE’s Chef de Cuisine, March 2017 saw the opening of CURATE’s perennial kitchen that operates in between each Art at Curate series.
Since then, CURATE has established itself as a fine dining establishment in its own right, serving up inventive contemporary European cuisine with Asian accents and influences.
4. A Chocolate Adventure at USS
In April 2017, we celebrated all things chocolate with A Chocolate Adventure at USS.
This candy wonderland comprised a Fondue Garden, Lollipop Land, Cocoa Hedge Maze and a workshop space where you could learn to bake cupcakes and cookies.
5. Summer Fun at Adventure Cove Waterpark
Over the summer break, we invited you to beat the heat over multiple challenges at Adventure Cove Waterpark (ACW)’s Summer Fun event.
6. World Oceans Day and the launch of Guardians of the S.E.A.A.
In June 2017, we celebrated World Oceans Day based on the theme ‘Healthy Ocean, Healthy Us’, and launched Guardians of the S.E.A.A. (originally S.E.A. Aquarium Society), a conservation group committed to protecting the marine environment all year-round.
7. CHEF: Bibimbap VS Chilli Crab
June 2017 also saw the debut of CHEF: Bibimbap VS Chilli Crab, the first ever Korea-Singapore non-verbal food musical. The production was the brainchild of renowned director Choi Chul Ki, the man behind global sensations like NANTA Cookin’ and JUMP!, and featured local starlets Hayley and Jayley Woo.
8. Retaining of Michelin Stars
Speaking of chefs, we celebrated with Joël Robuchon Restaurant, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon and Osia Steak & Seafood Grill as they retained their Michelin Stars for the second year since Michelin Guide Singapore’s launch in 2016.
P.S. don’t forget to follow us on Instagram @RWSDiningArtisans for the latest on our celebrity chef restaurants and your daily dose of tantalising images of gastronomic creations.
9. Despicable Me Breakout Party
In conjunction with the release of Despicable Me 3 in theatres, we organised a Despicable Me Breakout Party at USS where you could live your dream of being a Minion for a day. Who can forgot how the crowd went bananas each time the adorable Minions made their appearance?
10. RWS Street Eats
July marked another one of the many firsts we had in 2017, with the inaugural RWS Street Eats event where we brought all your favourite Southeast Asian street food – by renowned hawkers flown in from the region – under one roof.
Apart from the feasting, you also got to vote for traditional-versus-reimagined dishes prepared by overseas chefs and RWS chefs respectively at the RWS Street Eats Showdown.
11. TGFF
While RWS Street Eats celebrated Southeast Asian street food, The GREAT Food Festival boasted over 100 upscale award-winning and heritage-inspired dishes as well as over 300 desserts and pastries, making it Singapore’s largest curated food and lifestyle festival to date.
Hard-core foodies also got to learn from some of the world’s most famous chefs and patissiers up-close and in person.
12. Halloween Horror Nights 7
One of the most anticipated events of the year was Halloween Horror Nights 7 (HHN7).
This year’s theme, the 7 Deadlier Sins, was a reimagining of the 7 Deadly Sins – with a dash of local flavour to it.
2017 was also the first year that HHN at USS incorporated an immersive Zombie Laser Tag experience.
We hope you had just as much fun as we did!
13. Invites$10,000 Lucky Draw
In October 2017, RWS Invites – the Resort’s non-gaming loyalty programme – organized the Invites$10,000 Lucky Draw where one lucky winner walked away with S$10,000 worth of credits to spend at the Resort.
14. FLYING Through Time
Director Choi Chul Ki returned to RWS with a non-verbal action comedy, FLYING Through Time.
Featuring an international cast of ex-national athletes, gymnasts and dancers alongside local heartthrob Joshua Tan and starlet Melody Low, FLYING Through Time promises a night of light-hearted laughter and entertainment you wouldn’t want to miss.
FLYING Through Time is playing at the Resorts World Theatre till 21 January 2018, so catch it if you haven’t done so.
15. Opening of TEPPAN By Chef Yonemura
Following his visit for Art at Curate 2017 Series 5, Michelin-starred chef Masayasu Yonemura returned to RWS in December 2017 for a collaboration that would be his first outpost beyond the shores of Japan – TEPPAN By Chef Yonemura, the latest addition to RWS’s line-up of artisanal celebrity chef restaurants.
As a three-in-one theatrical dining concept, TEPPAN provides a highly personable dining experience where guests can interact with the chefs as each dish, cocktail and dessert is flamboyantly prepared before their very eyes.
16. Christmas at RWS
We then celebrated the most wonderful time of the year across the Resort. Programming for Christmas included A Universal Christmas at USS and Merry Fishmas at SEAA, along with a myriad of festive dining options across our celebrity chef restaurants.
Festive programming and menus will be on till 1 January 2018, so why not bring your family over to the Resort for a year-end/New Year celebration?
17. Re-opening of MEM
As one chapter ends, another begins. On 29 December 2017, we re-opened The Maritime Experiential Museum after an extensive overhaul to unveil a brand new immersive experience that lets you relive the glorious Maritime Silk Route of eras past.
Be transported through time in 15 thematic galleries that let you explore life on the sea and journey in the tailwinds of great explorers Zheng He, Marco Polo, Sang Nila Utama and Ibn Battuta.
Special opening admission rates are now available – so be one of the first to check it out!
Thank you!
Thank you for creating all these aRWSome moments with us, and we look forward to an even more exciting 2018 with you!
