As 2015 comes to a close and the countdown for 2016 begins, let’s take a breather and look back at some of the highlights of our year. Do you remember some of these moments?
Syun by Hal Yamashita comes to RWS
On 26 January, we added another celebrity chef restaurant to our dining establishments. Syun by Hal Yamashita serves contemporary Japanese cuisine.
Thai Iron Chef Ian Kittichai joins Tangerine
In January, spa cuisine at Tangerine received an injection of Asian fusion influence upon his arrival as Celebrity Chef Ian Kittichai, took over the reigns as Tangerine’s Consultant Chef.
LEGO Certified Store comes to RWS
In February, we launched our own LEGO Certified Store here at RWS. Located in the lobby of Festive Hotel, families now have another option to keep the kids occupied while they check in.
We went back in time with Great World Cabaret
In February, we did the bo bo cha cha with Great World Cabaret where we were transported back in time to the good ‘ole cabaret days in Singapore.
This is one of the two original productions we put up this year, with Cinderella, A Fairly True Story being the second production.
Egg-citing Easter at Universal Studios Singapore
From 14 March to 5 April 2015, we celebrated Easter with a new musical stageshow featuring the Egg Lord and his entourage.
Fast & Furious drives into USS
In March, two vehicles that were used in the production of Fast & Furious 7 were displayed at USS, alongside a Vin Diesel figure from and created by Madame Tussauds Singapore.
New dolphin calf at Dolphin Island
Opening of new ride at USS: Puss In Boots’ Giant Journey
On 7 April, Puss In Boots’ Giant Journey took off at Universal Studios Singapore. It was the first Puss in Boots-themed suspended roller coaster in the world and is the park’s newest ride to be launched since 2013. Do you recall which ride that was in 2013?
Fans Day Out
On 25 April, 20 fans joined us on a seven-hour behind the scenes tour of the Resort during Fans’ Day Out. Fans’ Day Out is our (almost) annual fans appreciation party.
New hotel opens in the west
Genting Hotel Jurong opens on 30 April, the first hotel in the Jurong district. We heard that it’s a hot spot for weddings and MICE events – the halls are booked for many months ahead.
Irrawaddy Dolphin population survey
From 28 April to 2 May, our Animal Health team went to Thailand’s Songkhla Lake for the Save The Irrawaddy Dolphin Project. Counting the Irrawaddy dolphin numbers was the first step in coming up with a plan to improve their declining population numbers.
Battlestar Galactica is back
On 27 May, we relaunched Battlestar Galactica: Human vs. Cylon, featuring new ride vehicle designs. Two abreast instead of four (in the previous version), which is said to give you a ride experience with more oomph. Did you feel the difference?
Manta mascot at S.E.A. Aquarium
In June, S.E.A. Aquarium debuted the very adorable Manta Mascot. It dresses up according to theme during the different programmes at the Aquarium.
Bigger, better Minion Mart
At Universal Studios Singapore, Minion Mart opened its expanded wing on 30 September. Three times bigger with even more Minions merchandise in store, we went bananas alright.
