OH, what a man!

In the past two years, Korean fandom has taken the world by storm. In Singapore, youngsters are imitating their favourite idols, from the way they dress to the how they style their hair, and to trying to speak like one. Yes, even the granny at the newspaper stand knows a thing or two about the cute lads from The Land of Kimchi. And if you think that Korean male celebrities are all cute, pale and boyish, you are right. Mostly.

Because 35-year old Oh Ji Ho is nothing but. A veteran of popular dramas like “Single Dad in Love” and “Chuno: The Slave Hunters”, Ji Ho is all man – tanned with rugged good looks and a body to die for. Did you know that Ji Ho had an amazingly low 2% body fat? The average joe probably packs more than 20%, while the couch potatoes… let’s not go there. And how did Ji Ho get that 2%? We heard that it was from intense martial arts training for “Chuno”.Ok, where do we sign up?

After finishing an upcoming Korean-Chinese-Japanese collaboration, “Strangers 6”, Ji Ho was in Resorts World Sentosa to film his autobiographical documentary. We had the good fortune to be granted a session with the man.

What are your first impressions of Singapore?

This is not my first time inSingapore. I feel thatSingaporeis a modern city with a clean environment and good weather; it is a very good place to rest and relax. People may complain that the weather is hot, but I like it.

What did you know about RWS before this trip?

My agent highly recommended RWS for my autobiographical shoot. Personally, I was looking forward to touring the entire resort, especially Universal Studios Singapore.

Would you want to live in Singapore?

Of course!Singaporeis a multi-cultural country and it would be great to experience all the various different cultures in one place. But since I am not living here, I would love to visitSingaporeagain.

How do you feel about the Korean wave phenomena?

It is an honour to hear that statement. People started by watching Korean dramas or listening to Korean music. But in essence, they all portray Korean culture. I think when one understands a certain culture better, one would naturally be more interested in and be able to understand the forms of entertainment better. I am very appreciative of everyone who expresses a keen interest in our way of life.

What can you reveal about your new drama, “Strangers 6”?

I can’t reveal too much at this point. What I can say is that “Strangers 6” is a drama series co-produced by Japan, Korea and China, which is a first in Asia. Personally I thoroughly enjoyed the production process and I hope everyone will be excited and thrilled by it when it is released.

Watch this space for more exclusive updates about what Ji Ho did for his autobiographical documentary. Meanwhile, here’s a short greeting from the man himself!
